Upper West Side Co-op

Walking into this beautiful 1924 Art Deco apartment, whose windows face a lush courtyard garden, feels completely transporting. Owned by a talented ceramic artist and her husband, every detail is informed by their passion for travel and their finely honed collection of the handmade. In selecting the intimate palate, so different from the all-white interiors found in many NYC apartments, the goal was to draw the visitor in and immediately have them engage with the wonderful collection of objects and artwork found in every room.

The kitchen and bathrooms were designed to complement this art. The natural limestone backsplash, hand-etched tiles, and bespoke lighting serve to embody a feeling of artisanal quality and craftsmanship while being utterly modern in function and simple in design.

The furnishings were selected for comfort and where possible we introduced another artist's hand: an African tribal bed (used here as a coffee table) and a hand-painted Chinese wedding cabinet, paired with mid-century classics. Handwoven textiles and rugs, rich in color and texture, are layered with consideration, creating a lush retreat.
